Orlando United free workshop and wills clinics benefit Pulse survivors, their families, and the community-at-large

In unity with the Orlando communities affected by the tragedy at Pulse Nightclub, Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida in partnership with Orlando Health, Akerman LLP, The Florida Bar Foundation, and the Hispanic Bar Association of Central Florida, is hosting a free legal and healthcare education workshop, followed by two free legal advice clinics.

Teams of volunteer attorneys and community partners will hold the events in September to educate and guide the public through the process of completing emergency-planning legal documents.

Following the tragic event, it became clear that too few people have a living will and advance directive, and more should be done to ensure that members of the community have these important legal documents in place during moments of crisis or grief. Prominent legal leaders have come together to address a need that, until now, many individuals had not even considered.

Legal and Healthcare Education Workshop
: Attorneys and healthcare professionals will be on-hand at this free workshop to provide information regarding wills, advance directives and selection of healthcare surrogates. Workshop attendees will also have an opportunity to register for the follow-up free legal advice clinics where they will be guided through the process of creating a simple will and advance directive.

    · Time: Thursday, September 1 from 6-8 p.m.

    · Location: Park Lake Presbyterian Church, 309 E. Colonial Dr., Orlando 2801.

Legal Advice Wills Clinics: During the free legal advice clinics attendees will meet one-on-one with a lawyer who will walk them through the process of preparing a simple will and advance directive. Attorney meetings will last about an hour, and clinic attendees will leave with fully complete documents.

    · Time: Friday, September 9 at 1-5 p.m., and Saturday, September 10 at 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

    · Location: Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida (CLSMF) Orlando Office, 122 E. Colonial Dr., Orlando 32801.

Space for these clinics is limited, and early registration is encouraged. Registration can be completed at  www.CLSMF.org/calendar/register-legal-advice-clinic
