Thomas G. Coleman of Fowler White Boggs in Ft. Myers has been elected secretary of the Lee County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division.

Kelsea Eckert of Eckert & Associates on Fleming Island spoke at the National Commercial Trucking Subrogation Strategies ExecuSummit on “Recovering Downtime Losses and Out of Pocket Expenses for Owner Operators.”

Tom Dart of Adams and Reese in Sarasota has been appointed to the Second District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission.

Edwin A. Scales III of GrayRobinson in Key West has been reappointed to the 16th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission.

John MacKay of High Shoals, Georgia, writes an op/ed column called “Approaching the Edge,” which runs in the Oconee Enterprise (Oconee County, Georgia.)

Dennis J. Wall of Winter Springs and Orlando co-presented “Sandy: The Catastrophic Coverage Issues,” to a webinar audience for West Legal Education Center. He also presented “Forensic Examination of Insurance Policies Part 2: Conditions and Exclusions” at an Orange County Bar Association seminar in Orlando.

Richard N. Bernstein, of counsel with Greenberg Traurig in Miami, has been appointed chair of United Israel Appeal, an independent entity of the Jewish Federations of North America that operates in partnership with The Jewish Agency for Israel.

Patrick S. Cousins of Cousins Law in West Palm Beach has been re-elected to the committee on trusteeship at The College of William & Mary Foundation.

Rose-Anne B. Frano, Jeffrey T. Troiano, and James L. Turner of Williams Parker in Sarasota presented a tax law update at the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Gulf Coast Chapter meeting.

Ben Solomon of Association Law Group in Miami was named “Associate Member of the Year” by the Florida Atlantic Building Association.

Kimberly Page Walker of Williams Parker has been re-appointed chair of the Sarasota City Commission’s Human Relations Board.

Yoshimi O. Smith of Beller Smith in Boca Raton presented “Portability and the Marital Deduction” at the New York University Institute on Federal Taxation in New York and San Francisco.

Melissa O’Connor of Kelley Kronenberg in Ft. Lauderdale was named an adjunct professor at Nova Southeastern University’s Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences. O’Connor will lead an upper level undergraduate course titled “Environmental Law & Policy.”

Brian O. Cross of Goede, Adamczyk & DeBoest in Naples has become fire commissioner of the East Naples Fire Control and Rescue District..

Kevin D. Johnson of Thompson, Sizemore, Gonzalez & Hearing has been elected president of the board of directors of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.

Kansas R. Gooden of Boyd & Jenerette in Jacksonville has been elected secretary of the Jacksonville Association of Defense Counsel.

Fredric A. Hoffman and Joseph Barry Schimmel of Cohen, Chase, Hoffman & Schimmel in Miami spoke about “Estate Planning for the Family Home” at the FICPA Tax & Financial Planning Conference in Hollywood.

Sam Zeskind of Weiss Serota Helfman Pastoriza Cole & Boniske in Ft. Lauderdale was elected to the Voices for Children of Broward County board

John Vento and Rhys Leonard of Trenam Kemker in Tampa discussed “International Traffic in Arms Regulations” to the Suncoast Chapter of the National Contract Management Association.

James E. McDonald of McLuskey & McDonald in Pinecrest has been appointed to the National League of Cities’ Community and Economic Development Steering Committee. McDonald is a Pinecrest City Council member.

Jeanie Dubinski, chief legal officer for Waste Pro in Longwood, was elected president of the Environmental Industry Association’s Women’s Council.

Richard B. Comiter of Comiter, Singer, Baseman & Braun in Palm Beach Gardens spoke on “Estate and Business Planning: A Good Asset Gone Bad” for the Palm Beach County Estate Planning Council.

Richard J. McAlpin of McAlpin Conroy in Miami spoke on “Joint and Several Liability under General Maritime Law” at the Cruise Lines International Association Leadership Forum.

Philippe Jeck of Juno Beach represented Jupiter Island in the Florida Historical Society’s celebration of the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Florida by Juan Ponce De Leon. The FHS, in conjunction with the Jupiter Island Historical Society and the Historical Society of Palm Beach County, among others, presented a courtroom drama in which Jeck advocated that Ponce De Leon came ashore on Jupiter Island.
