Law Day participantsTHE FRIENDS OF THE RUPERT J. SMITH LAW LIBRARY and the trustees of the Rupert J. Smith Law Library had close to 500 entries in its annual Law Day Student Art Contest. The opportunity for dialog and creative expression of basic civic values and constitutional principles between students and adults expanded this year with the addition of a new essay contest for middle and high school students. In keeping with the 2013 theme: “Realizing the Dream,” St. Lucie County students submitted artistic renderings related to either the Bill of Rights, symbols of justice, the role of courts, or judges and jurors as it related to the theme. Pictured are some of the art contest winners with Judge Burton Connor, left, and Law Week honoree Scott Van Duzer, right, of the Van Duzer Foundation.
