Puerto Rican Bar Association of Florida sets November 14 gala

The Puerto Rican Bar Association of Florida will host its Seventh Annual Gala on Saturday, November 14, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency in Coral Gables.

This year the theme will be "Education: Educating Tomorrow’s Leaders Today." In light of the theme, and to mark its commitment to education, the PR Bar will be launching a Scholarship Foundation, to promote and support the enrollment and graduation of future leaders.

Justice Lewis will keynote the gala The PR Bar also will be honoring Aspira of Florida, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to mentor middle and high school students through after-school programs and charter schooling. The PR Bar will donate a portion of its gala ticket sales to Aspira.

The PR Bar will also honor Dr. Larry Calderon, vice president for Community and Governmental Affairs at Nova Southeastern University, for his involvement in ensuring access to education, with a focus on new programs that meet the current demographic needs of the communities. Dr. Calderon has also been an unwavering supporter of the PR Bar.

NSU will also be recognized as a "beacon of education," as it is a Hispanic serving institution that was recently selected by the U.S. Department of Education as the recipient of a multi-million dollar grant for its role in promoting the advancement of higher education, according to the PR Bar.

The keynote speaker for the event will be Justice Fred Lewis, who will discuss the importance of education and his Justice Teaching program.

The incoming Board of the PR Bar -- Marisol Gomez, president-elect, and Regional Presidents Myriam Irizarry, Hector Rivera, Frank Rullan and Monica Santiago -- will be also be installed. Judge Carlos Rebollo will administer the Installation Oath.

The requested donation is $125 per person, which includes one hour cocktail reception, followed by dinner, dancing, and an open bar.
