Orange County Bar to present Innocence Commission seminar
The seminar is hosted by the OCBA's Criminal Law Committee and the ABA's White Collar Crime Committee.
Seminar speakers include Ninth Circuit Chief Judge Belvin Perry, Jr., Second DCA Judge Patricia J. Kelly, and R. Alex Acosta, dean of the Florida International University College of Law. Hank Coxe of Jacksonville, a former president of The Florida Bar, will moderate.
Perry, a past chair of the Florida Innocence Commission, will provide an overview of the commission's work and several topics that impact criminal convictions, including eyewitness identification, false confessions, law enforcement interrogation techniques, improper/invalid scientific evidence, and more. He will also discuss the commission's recommendation. Kelly and Acosta will focus specifically on laws related to eyewitness identifications and electronic recording of confessions.
Pre-registration is requested, with check payable to OCBA. Registration at the door begins at 1 p.m. Fee: $25 for ABA WCC Committee and OCBA members; $25 for judges, government attorneys, and students; $40 for all others.
