Russell Schropp of Henderson, Franklin, Starnes & Holt in Ft. Myers won the “Volunteer of the Year Award, Southwest Region” from the Florida Economic Development Council.

Bruce H. Gordon of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick in Tampa has been appointed vice chair of the Asset Protection Planning Committee of the ABA Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law.

Craig A. Minegar of Winderweedle, Haines, Ward & Woodman in Orlando discussed buying, selling, leasing, and developing real property at the monthly breakfast meeting of the Central Florida Brazilian American Chamber of Commerce.

John M. Hament and Nikhil N. Joshi of Kunkel Miller & Hament in Sarasota spoke on “Cutting Edge Employment Law Developments” at the Sarasota & Manatee Manufacturers’ Association dinner meeting.

Stuart N. Ratzan of Ratzan Law Group in Miami presented “Overcoming Juror Bias in the Medical Malpractice Case” during the Jury Selection Seminar at the FJA Annual Masters of Justice Education Conference in Coral Gables.

Vanessa Serrano of Broad and Cassel in Ft. Lauderdale has joined the board of directors of the Stephen R. Booher American Inn of Court.

David Pratt of Proskauer in Boca Raton spoke at the joint meeting of the ABA Tax and RPPTL sections in San Francisco on “Much Ado About Something: Clash of the Agent, Attorney, and Appraiser in Gift Tax Audits (in 4 Scenes).”

Brian K. Gart of Berger Singerman in Miami has been appointed to the board of directors for the Kozyak Minority Mentoring Program.

Julie Braman Kane of Colson Hicks Eidson in Coral Gables has been elected secretary of the American Association for Justice.

Mark R. Osherow of Broad and Cassel in West Palm Beach served as a panelist at the Business Litigation CLE Seminar titled, “A Panel Discussion on E-discovery for Commercial Litigators” at the Palm Beach County Bar Association.

Stephanie Deutsch of Lewis Stroud & Deutsch in Boca Raton is serving on the board of trustees of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America and is a committee member for the Evening of Hope event being held November 16.

Jill Burzynski of Burzynski Elder Law in Naples was sworn in as president of the LCPLFA (Life Care Planning Law Firm Association) at its annual meeting.

John P. Joseph of the Pinellas Legal Center with offices in St. Petersburg and Tampa presented “Keeping Your Church Out of Court” at the annual Experience Conference for church leaders in Lakeland.

Erin Smith Aebel of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick in Tampa spoke to nurses at Mease Countryside Hospital on the effect of the Affordable Care Act on diabetes care and management on behalf of the American Diabetes Association, where she serves as the chair of the Community Leadership Board.

Mary C. Evans of the Law Office of Mary C. Evans, P.A., in Ft. Myers and president of the Lee County Bar Association spoke to the Rotary Club of Ft. Myers South about the Lee County Bar Association and the services it offers to the community.

Eric J. Holshouser of Fowler White Boggs in Jacksonville has been elected president of the Leadership Board of the Northeast Florida Region of the American Lung Association of the Southeast, Inc. Holshouser also serves on the executive committee and sits on the board of directors of the American Lung Association of the Southeast.

Forrest J. Bass of Farr Law Firm in Punta Gorda has been elected to the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra’s board.

Wilson Wright of Tallahassee was inducted into the Antique and Classic Boat Society Hall of Fame. Wright managed the 3,200-member Chris Craft club from his Tallahassee law office for 25 years before retiring as executive director emeritus.

Joshua R. Brown of Greenberg Traurig in Orlando spoke on “Advanced Topics in eDiscovery” during an Orange County Bar Association workshop.

Matthew Mandel of Weiss Serota Helfman Pastoriza Cole & Boniske in Ft. Lauderdale has become president of the Broward County Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.

Linda Friedman Ramirez of St. Petersburg was awarded the 2013 Hispanic Leadership Class Award in “Orgullo” by Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc. Ramirez opened the Feathered Serpent Gallery on Central Avenue in St. Petersburg, emphasizing Latin American fine art. Ramirez was also elected president of the Arts Association in St. Petersburg.

Gwynne A. Young of Carlton Fields in Tampa was elected to the executive council of the National Conference of Bar Presidents.

Megan Dempsey, senior corporate counsel at TECO Energy in Tampa, was appointed by Gov. Rick Scott to serve on the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County.

Kenneth A. Cutler of Cutler Rader in Deerfield Beach has started his 13th year as a volunteer judge for the Broward County Teen Court Program.

Nicole L. Goetz of Nicole L. Goetz P.L. in Naples has received the “Keeper of the Flame Award” from the Family Law Section.

Dennis Wall of Winter Springs had his article “Force-placed, Lender-placed Insurance Class Actions: Is the Lender Placement of Insurance Authorized by Law, or Simply Beyond the Reach of the Courts?” published in Insurance Litigation Reporter.

Raul Perez-Ceballos of Coral Gables was appointed vice chair of the Family Law Section of the Dade County Bar.

Jason W. Searl of GrayRobinson in Orlando has been elected vice chair of the City of Orlando Municipal Planning Board.

Eric E. Ludin of Tucker & Ludin in Clearwater published a chapter titled “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals: Its Application, History, and Employment Considerations” in the 2013 edition of Inside the Minds, New Developments in Immigration Enforcement and Compliance published by Aspatore Books. Ahmad M. Yakzan assisted with writing and preparation of the chapter.

Elaine Johnson James of Berger Singerman in Boca Raton has been appointed to the board of directors of Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast.

Hilary High of the mediation firm Hilary High P.A. was appointed chair of the Mediation and ADR Section of the Hillsborough County Bar Association.

Christopher E. Brown and Lance O. Leider with The Health Law Firm in Altamonte Springs discussed Medicare and Medicaid audits with members of the Medical Office Resources of Florida and attending health-care providers in Altamonte Springs.

Stephen F. “Steve” Rossman of Rossman, Baumberger, Reboso, Spier & Connolly in Miami received the B.J. Masterson Award for Professionalism from the Florida Justice Association.

Brian D. Burgoon of The Burgoon Law Firm in Atlanta has become president-elect of the University of Florida College of Law Alumni Council.

Mark Rosman of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Washington, D.C., was a speaker at the “China Inside and Out” conference sponsored by the ABA Section of International Law, held in Beijing.

Howard J. Hollander has been appointed as a magistrate for the Town of Bay Harbor Islands.

Patricia A. Leonard of Greenberg Traurig in West Palm Beach has been appointed to The American Academy of Medical Entrepreneurs Editorial Advisory Board.

Kelly Kolb and Margaret Villella of Fowler White Boggs in Ft. Lauderdale presented “The Second Term U.S. Dept. of Labor – Litigating the Extremes” at the ACC South Florida Chapter’s Annual CLE Conference.

Ronald D. Kozlowski of Turner O’Connor Kozlowski in Gainesville was installed as president of the North Central Florida Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.

Yelizaveta “Liz” Batres Herman of Rosenbaum Mollengarden in West Palm Beach gave a welcoming speech, on behalf of the Federal Bar Association, to new citizens sworn in during the United States Naturalization Ceremony in West Palm Beach.
Patricia H. Thompson of Carlton Fields in Miami was honored for her leadership in the legal field at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Salute to Miami’s Leadership Luncheon.

James Jones, Jr., of The Jones Firm in Miami wrote “The Modern Athlete: Protecting Your ‘Business’ From Lawsuits” that appeared in the Houston Chronicle and on The Law TV.

Lewis S. “Mike” Eidson of Colson Hicks Eidson in Coral Gables has been awarded the Florida Justice Association’s Al J. Cone Lifetime Achievement Award.

David L. Hirsch of Brawer, Hirsch and Associates in Ft. Lauderdale served as master of ceremonies for the Annual It Takes a Village to Raise a Child Parenting Conference at Florida Technical College in Pembroke Pines.

Jake M. Greenberg of Hirschhorn & Bieber in Miami spoke at the University of Miami Criminal Law Society panel discussion on careers in criminal law.

Lori Caldwell-Carr of InFocus Family Firm in Orlando has become chair of the Orange County Bar Association’s Family Law Section. Caldwell-Carr also was honored by the Bar’s Family Law Section with its “Rising Star” award. She chairs the section’s rules and forms committee.
