Michel Weisz and Jordi Guso of Berger Singerman in Miami presented “Dealer Economics: How to Survive,” at the International Boatbuilders Exhibition and Conference in Miami.

Lori E.H. Killinger of Lewis, Longman & Walker in Tallahassee presented a 2010 legislative forecast to the St. Johns County Economic Development Council in Ponte Vedra Beach. She also moderated a panel discussing the upcoming legislative session for the Urban Land Institute of North Florida in Tallahassee.

Sandra C. Upchurch of Upchurch Watson White & Max in Daytona Beach discussed “Mediation Advocacy” at a Clearwater Bar Association Civil Practice Section luncheon.

Vicki Tucci, director of the West Palm Beach Guardian ad Litem Program, was honored with the 2009 Child AbuseWatch Child Advocate Award from the One Child International, Inc., the Florida non-profit which operates the international Child AbuseWatch network.

Randy Kammer of Jacksonville received the Out & Equal Champion Award, for her support of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender rights. This award recognizes a non-GLBT person who has played a pivotal role in championing equal treatment of GLBT employees on the job and has demonstrated a significant commitment to GLBT workplace rights.

Lewis Kuhl of Pathman Lewis in Miami recently spoke about “Tackling Challenges Head-on” at the 2009 Finance & Insurance Conference & Expo.

Terry P. Verduin of West Palm Beach has published her second rhyming, illustrated children’s book, The Amazing Flight of Little Ray, through BookSurge of Amazon.com, under the pen name of V. R. Duin.

Mark P. Rankin of Carlton Fields in St. Petersburg served as a panelist on a program titled “Orange Jumpsuits Aren’t Flattering: The Expanding Threat of Criminal Liability for Lawyers” at the Aon Large Law Firm Symposium.

Rep. Elaine J. Schwartz, D-Hollywood, spoke on “Legislative Efforts to Aid the Disabled” at the Florida’s Voice on Developmental Disabilities 2009 Annual Conference at Nova Southeastern University.

Timothy Daniel of Ormond Beach has been elected to the board of trustees of the Museum of Florida Art in DeLand.

Jacqueline J. Buyze of Jacqueline Buyze Mediation, Inc., spoke on “Foreclosure 2009 — Navigating the New Frontier” at a Paralegal Association of Florida, Inc., Southwest Florida Chapter meeting.

Travis Goodwin of Akerman Senterfitt has been appointed to the board of directors of the American Cancer Society — Greater Tampa Unit.

Michael A. Myers of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick in Tampa discussed copyright and trademark law and how it relates to sports and entertainment to the Intellectual Property Law Society and the Sports and Entertainment Law Society at Stetson University College of Law.

F. Joseph Ullo, Jr., of Lewis, Longman & Walker in Jacksonville participated in a panel titled “The Basics of Brownfields” and on another panel titled “Voluntary Cleanup Tax Credits — What’s the Latest and Where is the Funding Coming From?” at the Annual Florida Brownfields Conference in Tampa.

Mindi M. Richter of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick in Tampa spoke at the First Amendment Foundation’s 2009 Sunshine Seminar in St. Petersburg about the Supreme Court's Jews for Jesus, Inc., v. Rapp decision and what it means for media law in Florida.

Joshua T. Keleske of Joshua T. Keleske, P.A., in Tampa, has been elected to the board of directors of Cornerstone Family Ministries.

Jason Moyer of Fowler White Boggs was selected for Leadership St. Pete, class of 2010.

Stephen A. Walker, Daniel D. Richardson, and Andrew J. Baumann, of Lewis, Longman & Walker presented “What Do You Do When the Government Shows Up?” to the South Florida Manufacturers Association offices in Pompano Beach.

William Ruffier of Dellecker, Wilson, King, McKenna & Ruffier in Orlando spoke on “Medical Malpractice Lawsuits from a Plaintiff’s Perspective” at the annual meeting of the Florida Perfusion Society in Tampa.

Lori Adelson, of counsel at Weiss Serota Helfman Pastoriza Cole & Boniske in Ft. Lauderdale, made two presentations at the Broward County Bench-Bar Convention, titled “New Labor, Employment, and Discrimination Laws – 2009 Updated” and “Coming Changes That Will Affect Labor and Employment Laws.”

Hank Jackson of Shutts & Bowen in West Palm Beach has been appointed a certified circuit mediator by the Florida Supreme Court. Jackson represents clients in the fields of medicine, real estate, hospitality, agriculture, insurance, telecommunications, accounting, and manufacturing.

Peter Prieto of Holland & Knight in Miami has been appointed to the board of trustees at St. Thomas University.

Journey Beard, with the Criminal Justice Commission of Palm Beach County, has been elected to the board of directors of the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida. Beard also was selected into the Class of 2010 of Leadership Palm Beach County.

Howard Krooks of Elder Law Associates in Boca Raton delivered “Document Drafting for the Multistate Client” at the New York State Bar Association Elder Law Section Fall Meeting in Bolton Landing, NY.

David M. Rieth of Rieth & Ritchie, P.A., in Tampa has been selected as a member of the Visiting Committee for the University of Chicago Law School for a three-year term.

Martin H. Cohen, with offices in Pembroke Pines and Plantation, presented “Trusts for Your Disabled Client” at the quadrennial Broward County Bench & Bar Convention and also presented “Special Needs Trusts for Estate Planners” to the West Broward Estate Planning Council.

Joseph G. Jarret, chief deputy county attorney for Knox County, Tennessee, and former county attorney for Polk County, presented a block of instruction on behalf of circuit judges across the state of Tennessee on “Special Education Mediation” and has published “Communicating the Crisis Communications Plan” in Public Management Journal.

Robert Zarco and Himanshu Patel of Zarco Einhorn Salkowski & Brito in Miami presented at the ABA’s 32nd Annual Forum on Franchising, “The Architecture of Franchise Law-Engineering Excellence.” Zarco spoke on “Fundamentals 201: Franchise Litigation.” Patel discussed “Common Discovery Issues in Franchising: From the Advocates and a Decision-maker.”

Anne S. Mason of Mason Law in Clearwater spoke on copyright and trademark law and trends at a seminar presented by the Intellectual Property Law Society and the Sports and Entertainment Law Society at Stetson University.

Twyla Sketchley of the Sketchley Law Firm in Tallahassee presented "Surrogate Decision-makers and the Limits of Their Authority" to the Florida Department of Elder Affairs Long Term Care Program’s Training for Change seminar.

Margaret A. “Peggy” Rolando of Shutts & Bowen in Miami has been named a trustee of Florida State University by the Florida Board of Governors.

John L. Moore and Kimberly Page Walker of Williams Parker in Sarasota presented at the Gulf Coast Chapter of Professional Association of Health Care Office Management seminar. Moore spoke on “Negotiating Managed Healthcare Contracts” and Walker provided an employment law update.

Joaquin (Quino) E. Martinez of Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed in Orlando was appointed to the City of Orlando Board of Zoning Adjustment.

Kevin Tynan of Richardson and Tynan in Pembroke Pines was appointed by Gov. Charlie Crist to the Broward County School Board.

Karl B. Hanson, Jr., of Fowler White Boggs has been elected chair of the board of directors for Synovus Bank in Jacksonville.

Scott B. Smith of Smith, Ivey & Fronrath in Palm Beach Gardens has been reappointed by the Palm Beach Gardens City Council to serve as a member of the City’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

Alan L. Landsberg of Keller Landsberg in Ft. Lauderdale presented “Due Diligence Liabilities of Real Estate Attorneys” at the 22nd Institute on Real Property Law, sponsored by the University of Miami School of Law.

Harry Lee Anstead of Tallahassee has been appointed to the Florida Lawyers Assistance, Inc., Board of Directors.
Robert J. Sniffen of Sniffen & Spellman in Tallahassee presented “Issues of Religion in the Public Schools,” at the Florida School Boards Insurance Trust Fall Conference, and “Eleventh Circuit Employment Law Update,” at the 35th Annual Public Labor Relations Forum.

David Bates of Gunster in West Palm Beach has been elected to the board of directors for the Business Development Board.

Lance Ivey of Smith, Ivey & Fronrath has been elected to membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates of the Palm Beach Chapter of ABOTA.

Robert S. Freedman and Nicole C. Kibert of Carlton Fields in Tampa spoke at real estate programs sponsored by the University of Miami School of Law in Ft. Lauderdale. Kibert presented “Sustainable Development - Moving from Conceptual to Concrete: Implementing Sustainable Development through LEED – ND.” Freedman presented “Lessons Learned Through the Recession: The Far Reaching Impacts of Inadequate Drafting on Communities in Distress - Ethical Considerations.”

Meah Tell of Coral Springs, Geraldine Lee Waxman of Lauderhill, and Bruce A Blitman of Ft. Lauderdale presented “Do's and Don’ts For Mediators Drafting Documents” at the Broward County Bar Association’s Bench and Bar Convention in Ft. Lauderdale.

Stephanie Vaughan has been promoted to professor of legal skills at Stetson University College of Law and has received tenure.

R. Michael Brooks of Bricklemyer Smolker & Bolves in Tampa has been elected vice president of government affairs for NAIOP of Florida.
