PEC chair to sit on Bar’s Executive Committee

The chair of the Board of Governors’ Program Evaluation Committee will become an automatic member of the Bar’s Executive Committee under a rule change approved by the Board of Governors.

The board at its October meeting approved a recommendation presented by PEC Chair Ray Abadin.

Bar President Eugene Pettis said the change is important because the PEC “plays a vital role in all of our operations.”

The panel is charged with reviewing all new Bar programs, including new sections and committees, and conducting a periodic review of existing programs and operations. The rule change to add the PEC chair will go to the Supreme Court for review.

Currently the Executive Committee includes the Bar president, president-elect, Young Lawyers Division president, the chairs of the Legislation, Communications, Disciplinary Review, and Budget committees, two board members chosen by the Bar president, and three board members elected by the board.

On another matter, the board approved the PEC’s recommendation to change the name of the Citizens Forum to the Citizens Advisory Committee.

The board also received from the PEC on first reading amendments to more than 50 Board of Legal Specialization and Education policies, which will come back to the board for approval at its December meeting. The committee has been working with the BLSE on streamlining and standardizing the policies.
