Bar honors legislators

Sen. Joyner and Eugene Pettis Lawyer-legislators were honored with Florida Bar legislative awards, presented by outgoing President Gwynne Young at the Bar’s Annual Convention in Boca Raton:

* Sen. Rob Bradley, R-Orange Park, chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Criminal and Civil Justice, for “efforts to assure adequate funding for Florida’s state courts and justice system throughout the 2013 Legislative Session.

* Sen. Joe Negron, R-Palm City, chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and Senate sponsor of the “Timely Justice Act” for capital cases, for “efforts throughout the 2013 Legislative Session to assure adequate funding for Florida’s state courts and to institute meaningful reform within our civil and criminal justice system while respecting the separation of governmental powers in our state.”

* Rep. Charles McBurney, R-Jacksonville, chair of the House Justice Appropriations Subcommittee, for “efforts to assure adequate funding for Florida’s state courts and justice system throughout the 2013 Legislative Session.”

* Sen. Arthenia Joyner, D-Tampa, vice chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Criminal and Civil Justice, for “dedication to the legal profession and outstanding service to the people of Florida throughout the 2013 Legislative Session.”

* Sen. Christopher L. Smith, D-Ft. Lauderdale, vice chair of both the Senate Criminal Justice and Rules committees, for “dedication to the legal profession and outstanding service to the people of Florida throughout the 2013 Legislative Session.”
