Current Job Opportunity - Date: March 4, 2013, Closing Date: April 30, 2013, Position Number: 03048, Position Title: Clerk of the Florida Supreme Court, Job Location: Florida Supreme Court, Clerk’s Office, Tallahassee, Florida, Salary Range: $115,000 - $120,000 (Annually). The Florida Supreme Court is seeking an experienced executive manager with broad appellate court experience preferred for the position of Clerk of the Supreme Court of Florida. The essential function of the position within the organization is to oversee the monitoring of receipting, processing, documenting, and filing of pleadings, briefs, opinions and related legal documents submitted to or originated by the Court. The position is also responsible for reviewing and approving all uncontested bar disciplinary actions, overseeing review of files received, determining action on certain jurisdictional questions, giving direction on motions and other pleadings filed with the Court, preparing special reports on the Court calendar, and overseeing the preparation and maintenance of dockets, records and files. The position works to solve administrative problems and to improve the Court’s case management processes and other internal procedures. The position works independently, reporting major activities through periodic meetings with the Chief Justice and the Court. Education and Training Guidelines: Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis. Education: Juris Doctorate or advanced degree in a field of management such as public administration, business administration, accounting, etc. Experience: Six years of executive management experience including three years experience supervising non-attorneys required. Five years experience in the practice of appellate law subsequent to Bar admission or five years experience or legal work on the staff of an appellate court as an appellate court clerk, judicial law clerk or staff attorney highly desired. Membership in the Florida Bar highly desired. Special Comments: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Knowledge of web-based applications required; Knowledge of Windows Operating System and programs required; Demonstrated commitment, dedication, and multi-tasking skills are required. Excellent writing skills required; Ability to analyze complex legal and factual matters with attention to minute details required; Ability to communicate, cooperate, coordinate, and plan with others to accomplish tasks and achieve common goals required; Ability to exercise discretion and judgment and to preserve the confidentiality expected of an attorney in a position of the highest trust and confidence required; Ability to make presentations of complex issues to a wide audience required; Knowledge of evolving technology in the transition to a paperless environment, especially court environment, highly preferred; Knowledge of methods of legal research and the documentation of legal authority through citation preferred; Ability to interact with media representatives preferred; Experience in legal writing including the drafting of orders preferred; Must be willing to travel.
