Students and Justice teaching volunteers

JENNIFER LEVIN WEARS MANY HATS. She is an attorney, a commissioner for the City of Sunny Isles Beach in Miami-Dade County, and a Justice Teaching volunteer for the Norman S. Edelcup K-8 School. During Law Week, Levin arranged and implemented an educational event for over 150 students that involved a question-and-answer session with a panel of community leaders from Sunny Isles Beach. The city attorney, city manager, assistant city clerk, and city commissioners participated, using the Law Day theme “American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters” for the event. The session began with a discussion about local government and the upcoming November elections. Questions were presented to the panel by selected students, ranging from “What do you think people should do to take an active part in government?” to “How can we as students get more involved in our local government?” For more information about becoming a Justice Teaching volunteer, visit www.justiceteaching.org.
