THE BROWARD COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION Young Lawyers Section recently hosted its 26th annual charity golf tournament at the Jacaranda Golf Club in Plantation. The YLS raised $35,000 at the tournament to benefit HANDY — Helping Abused Neglected Disadvantaged Youth. Each year, YLS chooses a different charity for the tournament. This year, YLS chose HANDY, whose mission is to embrace, educate, and empower vulnerable youths to become engaged, productive adults. HANDY annually serves more than 1,300 at-risk children who participate in comprehensive programs that focus on education, youth development, and economic self-sufficiency. Carner, Newmark & Cohen signed on as the event’s exclusive title sponsor this year. The Broward YLS is comprised of attorneys 36 years of age or younger or those who have been practicing law for less than five years. The group hosts seminars and events to help educate young lawyers on current legal issues and professionalism in the law. The YLS also hosts several charitable events, including the annual golf tournament. Jeff Wank, an associate with Colodny, Fass, Talenfeld, Karlinsky, Abate & Webb, has chaired the golf event for the past three years. “It is an opportunity for us to give back and help some of the most vulnerable children in our community,” said Wank. “The golf tournament has grown each year as far as participation and monies raised. Our board is extremely proud of what we have accomplished.” The four-person scramble drew 160 participants and featured several contests, including a hole-in-one contest, longest drive contest, closest-to-pin contest, and straightest drive contest.
