Enhancements are underway for The Florida Bar’s Web site, and the Bar is preparing to hire a consultant as part of a major review of www.floridabar.org.
Juliet Roulhac, Comm-unications Committee chair, reported to the Board of Governors last month that the committee has already approved three upgrades to the Web site, all of which should be in place shortly.
The first will be using the popular Google search engine for the Bar’s Web site, she said.
The second improvement will be a “quick links” feature on the homepage.
When a user moves a cursor over the quick link, Roulhac said, a menu will automatically drop down without the necessity of a mouse click.
Fifteen or 16 prominent programs or activities will be included in the quick links, she said, including diversity efforts and the board certification program. Roulhac also said the Bar’s Law Office Management Assistance Service will have a prominent place on the homepage.
The third change is the startup of the Bar’s Web site-based Career Resource Center.
“It will allow employers to post jobs for a fee, and the members will have a free resource to post their own resume and do job searches,” Roulhac said.
The program is run by an outside vendor at no cost to the Bar and with the Bar getting a percentage of the revenues.
Employers will be able to purchase online job listings, post a firm profile, and search posted resumes to find candidates that meet their job parameters.
The vendor will also, for a fee, do background checks on applicants.
Job-seekers will be able to search local, regional, and national listings, post a resume for free, and create a “job agent” that searches job databases for pre-selected job preferences.
The Career Resource Center is expected to be up and running this month.
On a related matter, Roulhac reported the Bar has sent out requests for proposals to consultants to assist with this year’s planned review of the Web site and the Bar is now reviewing various submissions.
The Bar hopes to finish the revamping by the June 30 end of the fiscal year, Roulhac said, achieving the goal of making the Web site more accessible and easy to use.
On other matters, the board approved two recommendations from the committee.
One is for a Consumer Protection Law Committee campaign to inform consumers about their rights in loan modification and foreclosure cases. The committee is applying for a $5,000 Florida Bar Foundation grant to pay for the campaign.
The second is for the continuation of the Board of Legal Education and Specialization campaign to educate the public about board certification and to encourage lawyers to become board certified.
