FAMU student wins animal law writing contest

FLORIDA A&M UNIVERSITY law student Kara Graham, center, was named the winner of the 2015 Law Student Animal Law Legal Writing Competition. The competition, now in its third year, is presented by the Florida State University College of Law Chapter of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, and is co-sponsored by Pets Ad Litem, Inc., and The Florida Bar Animal Law Committee. Graham’s article was titled “Cooling Down Florida’s Coast: Saving East Central and Southeast Florida’s Sea Turtles From Impacts of Climate Change.” Pictured with Graham is FAMU College of Law Professor Randall S. Abate, left, and Ralph A. DeMeo, CEO of Pets ad Litem and a former chair of the Bar’s Animal Law Committee. The Animal Law Committee will become a Bar section on July 1, 2016, and is now working to recruit members.
