Board Certification Applications for Lawyers

If you were originally certified in 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006, or 2011, the Application for Recertification Word document opens in new windowmust be postmarked by August 15, 2016. All requirements for recertification are to be completed by July 31, 2016 unless you file a recertification file extension request.

Seeking Certification
If you wish to apply for certification, the
Initial Application for Certification
Word document opens in new window filing period opens September 1, 2016 and applications must be postmarked by October 31, 2016. This filing period is to become eligible to sit for the May 12, 2017 Criminal Trial Law Exam.

You may submit an Abbreviated Application for Certification Word document opens in new window only if you meet one of the following conditions. To become eligible to sit for the May 12, 2017 Criminal Trial Law Exam, the abbreviated application must be postmarked by October 31, 2016.

1. You submitted an Initial Application for Certification by October 31, 2015 which was approved, but you were unable to sit for the 2016 Criminal Trial Law Exam.

2. You submitted an Initial Application for Certification by October 31, 2015 which was approved, you took the 2016 Criminal Trial Law Exam, but you were unsuccessful in obtaining a passing score. (Please note if you were unsuccessful on the 2015 and 2016 exam, you are not eligible to apply for the 2017 Criminal Trial Law Exam, but you may apply for the 2018 exam by submitting the Initial Application for Certification by October 31, 2017.)
