Save-the-date for the 2013 Voluntary Bar Leaders Conference - The Voluntary Bar Liaison Committee is making plans for the 2013 Voluntary Bar Leaders Conference to be held July 19-20, 2013 at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort in Clearwater. TBA is ready to rock! - The Tallahassee Barristers Association will participate in the 2012 John G. Riley House & Museum Rock-a-thon fundraiser to benefit the organization's heritage education programs. The event will be held on Dec. 1 at Florida A&M University's Jake Gaither Gymnasium in Tallahassee. Donations may be made in any amount payable to the Riley House Museum. OCBA to present litigating in probate court seminar - On Dec. 11, the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) and LawReview CLE will co-host the major seminar, "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Litigating a Case in Probate Court," from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the OCBA Center in Orlando. The cost to attend is $75 and will include a continental breakfast and 3.0 hours CLE (pending). Speakers are Alexander S. Douglas, II, Esq.; Russell R. Winer, Esq.; Linda C. BCJA Annual Judges' Night 2012 - On Thursday, Dec. 13, the Broward County Justice Association will host a special presentation in honor of retiring members of its local judiciary at the Annual Judges' Night. The event will be held in the Panorama Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 and will begin with a 6 p.m. cocktail hour, followed by the dinner and program at 7 p.m. The cost to attend is $90 per person; $25 for students; and complimentary to members of the judiciary. MDFAWL to host 30th reception - On Dec. 14, the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (MDFAWL) will mark its 30th year hosting its Annual Judicial Reception & Scholarship Luncheon. The luncheon serves to honor our judiciary in addition to presenting this year's scholarship recipients as well as presenting the recipient of the Honorable Theodore Klein Award. CCBA celebrates Judge Crenshaw's 20 years of service - On Nov. 8, the Clay County Bar Association held a reception to celebrate the 20 years of dedicated service given by retiring Judge McCarthy Crenshaw, Jr. CCBA officers presented Crenshaw with a framed copy of The Clay Today front page article about his service to the Clay County Courts and retiring after 20 years on the bench.

BCBA Legislative Affairs Committee to host reception - The Legislative Affairs Committee of the Broward County Bar Association and The Florida Bar Board of Governors 17th Circuit will host a President's Reception to introduce the 2013 Broward County Legislative Delegation, members of The Florida Bar Board of Governors and Broward County Bar Association officers and members. This networking event will be held from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. on Nov. 28 at the Renaissance Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale. The cost to attend is $25 for members of the Broward County Bar Association, $30 for non-members and complimentary to members of the judiciary. CABA to host inaugural scholarship fundraising event - The Cuban American Bar Association (CABA) Foundation will host its First Annual Scholarship Fundraising Event at 8 p.m. on Dec. 1 at the Miami Seaquarium. CABA will partner with The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana for "A Toy for Every Child 2012" holiday party, benefiting underserved children throughout South Florida and raise funds toward the $100,000 year-end goal for the Foundation's Scholarship Endowment. The event will feature live music entertainment, delicious catered foods from local gourmet restaurants, an open bar and much more. Tickets to this event will be sold primarily through CABA. DCBA to host seminar on military pensions - The Family Court Committee of the Dade County Bar Association will host a seminar entitled, Federal and Military Pensions in Divorce. The speaker will be Matthew Lundy of The Matthew Lundy Law Group. The seminar will be held on Dec. 11 from 12 noon -1 p.m. in the 11th Floor Conference Room of the Lawson E. Thomas Courthouse in Miami. The cost to attend will be $25 for members; $35 for non-members and will include lunch and CLE credit pending approval by The Florida Bar. CBA to ring bells for the Salvation Army - On Friday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 7, the Clearwater Bar Association will sponsor the Annual Kettle Days for the Salvation Army at Sam's Club on Gulf to Bay and U.S. Highway 19 N. The bar was recognized in 2009 and 2011 with the Gold Kettle Award for collecting the most money at any one location and is participating in this project for the eighth consecutive year. Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. each day. MDGALLA to host networking breakfast - The Miami-Dade Gay and Lesbian Lawyer's Association (MDGALLA) will host a networking breakfast from 9-10 a.m. at the LGBT Visitor Center in Miami Beach. Learn how to maximize the use of all the marketing tools and programs available with MDGALLA membership. Learn about the upcoming new MDGLCC website, access and new features as well as bounce ideas and ask questions to Chamber staff and Membership Committee members on how to engage the LGBT consumer with your products and/or services. OCBA begins 2013 Leadership Law class enrollment - The Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) is currently enrolling participants for its award-winning program, Leadership Law. The leadership program was developed in 2011 to provide Central Florida business owners and managers an opportunity to learn about and experience the legal system in action. This past summer, Leadership Law was awarded the National Association of Bar Executives LexisNexis Community Educational and Outreach Award at the American Bar Association conference in Chicago. The program meets once monthly from January through May. Attorneys are encouraged to let their business associates know about Leadership Law! Joint Bar Holiday Soirée - The F. Malcolm Cunningham, Sr. Bar Association and Palm Beach County Hispanic Bar Association will join together for their 2012 Holiday Soirée. Get Involved! - Through division, section and committee membership, lawyers can focus their involvement in an area of the law that most interests them. Membership offers education as well as a forum for lawyers who share similar interests in a specific legal field to share experiences. To serve on a standing or substantive law committee, you must be a member in good standing, pursuant to Bylaw 2-8.1, and file a COMMITTEE PREFERENCE FORM. The form is online each year from December 1 thru January 15 and can be completed and submitted online during this period. REMEMBER TO APPLY FOR YOUR FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD CHOICES. 2013 Pro Bono Service Awards - Each year, the Supreme Court of Florida and The Florida Bar give special recognition to lawyers, groups and a member of the judiciary who have freely given their time and expertise in making legal services available to the poor. ABA BLI - The ABA Bar Leadership Institute (BLI) is the premier program for developing the skills and substantive grounding for leading a bar association with inspiration, insight and innovation. The BLI will be held March 13-15, 2013 at the Marriott Downtown Chicago. The ABA Standing Committee on Bar Activities and services will offer five scholarships to help presidents-elect and other upcoming leaders of small bar associations to attend the BLI. The scholarship consists of a registration waiver and a $500 reimbursement of meeting and travel expenses. The deadline to apply is Jan. 9, 2013.
