WHAT'S GOING ON AROUND THE BARS. . .
OCBA presents three major seminars in April – The Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) will host three major continuing education seminars in April. All seminars will be held at the OCBA, 880 North Orange Ave., Orlando, Florida, 32801.
- On Monday, April 2, from 1–4:30 p.m., the OCBA and the Paul C. Perkins Bar Association will present "Myths of Diversity: Get the Facts." 3.0 CLE is pending approval by The Florida Bar. The speakers are Anthony J. Hall, Esq., Littler Mendelson, P.C., and Jean E. Wilson, Esq., Greenberg, Traurig, P.A. Registration fee: $35 for members; $45 for non-members. Registration with payment is requested by March 29.
- On Tuesday, April 10, from 12–5 p.m., the OCBA Intellectual Property Committee will present: "Issues in International Intellectual Property Law." 4.5 CLE is pending approval by The Florida Bar.
- On Thursday, April 19, from 1:30–5 p.m., the OCBA Technology Committee will present "eDiscovery: The Now and Soon to Be." 3.0 CLE is pending approval by The Florida Bar. Registration fee: $35 for members; $45 for non-members.

The BCBA presents J. Cheney Mason – The Broward County Bar Association will present J. Cheney Mason on Friday, March 30 at the Broward County Courthouse 3rd Floor Jury Room from 1–3 p.m. The topic of discussion will be his representation in the Casey Anthony trial and his legal representation in other high profile cases. TWL’s Second Annual Rookie Camp – The Tallahassee Women Lawyers will sponsor its "award-winning" second annual Rookie Camp on March 30 at the First District Court of Appeal beginning at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided and registration is free for law students and attorneys in practice two years or less. Rookie Camp, which recently won "Best Member Program" from The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division, is designed to provide new attorneys and law students with an opportunity to meet local leaders in the legal community, receive tips on successful networking, learn practical tips on managing and building their careers, and listen to speakers give guidance for succeeding in the workplace. Speakers and panel members will include Justice Ricky Polston, Judge Stephanie Ray, Judge Lynne Quimby-Pennock, Judge Thomas Crapps, Trudy Innes Richardson, Terry Dariotis and Victoria Zepp. Don't miss the speed-mentoring session held after lunch where young lawyers and law students will have a chance to network with panelists as well as other distinguished members of the legal community (see attached agenda). Lunch will be provided free of charge to law students and lawyers in their first two years of practice. The CBA YLD to host Annual Judicial Reception – The Clearwater Bar Association Young Lawyers Division will host its Annual Judicial Reception on Tuesday, April 24, 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the Ruth Eckerd Hall, Margaret Heye Great Room, in Clearwater. Lawyers and law firms are invited to sponsor this event for $300. Sponsors receive four complimentary reception tickets and appropriate recognition, including firm listing in the formal invitation mailed to all members and judges.
SPBCBA Civil Practice Committee to host lunch – On March 28, the South Palm Beach County Bar Association Civil Practice Committee will host a lunch at the Boca Raton Marriott at Boca Center in Boca Raton. The speaker will be Michael Greenberg from The Florida Bar speaking on The Florida Bar Grievance Procedure. The cost to attend is $35 for members of the SPBCBA and $50 for non–members of SPBCBA. Benchmarks: Raising the Bar on Civics Education – Benchmarks: Raising the Bar on Civics Education will be presented by the Palm Beach County Bar Association Law Related Education Committee Thursday, April 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the PBCBA office. The cost to attend is $35 for PBCBA members and paralegals and $45 for nonmembers. Price includes lunch and CLE credit. Attorneys who undergo this training will be eligible to earn one ethics hour for each presentation that they give to adults in civic and community organizations for up to three presentations in a three-year reporting period. Registration opens for NCBP, NABE and NCBF annual meetings – Registration has opened for the 2012 annual meetings of the National Association of Bar Executives (July 31–Aug. 2); National Conference of Bar Presidents (Aug. 2–4); and the National Conference of Bar Foundations (Aug. 2–4). (More).
Nomination period opens for Spirit of Excellence Awards – The ABA Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession is accepting nominations for the 2013 Spirit of Excellence Awards. The awards celebrate the accomplishments of lawyers who promote a more racially and ethnically diverse legal profession.
