Weathering Florida's Housing Crisis

Helpful tools for Attorneys and Consumers
A service of The Florida Bar Consumer Protection Law Committee

Florida is on the front lines of a national crisis that has seen thousands lose their homes to foreclosure. With a jobless rate up to more than 9 percent, many Floridians cannot pay their mortgages or other financial obligations. Floridians have looked for relief in a number of ways -- some of which have worsened their circumstances when promised debt reduction, loan modifications or negotiated settlements failed to materialize.

This Web page is designed to give both consumers and attorneys helping them legitimate sources of assistance. Unfortunately too many offers of aid are scams that charge fees for services not performed or unsatisfactorily performed. The Consumer Protection Law Committee of The Florida Bar offers these links with the hopes they will help those in need find the services they require and aid attorneys in handling cases that may not be in their primary areas of practice. If you know of additional resources, please send information to the Consumer Protection Law Committee at
