JACKSONVILLE ATTORNEY TO BE SWORN IN AS PRESIDENT-ELECT

Henry M. Coxe III, of Jacksonville, becomes The Florida Bar’s President-elect when he takes oath of office on Friday, June 24, 2005, during the Bar’s 2005 Annual Meeting at the Orlando World Center Marriott. Coxe will become president of The Florida Bar in June 2006.

Coxe, a partner in the law firm Bedell, Dittmar, DeVault, Pillans & Coxe, was first elected to represent the Fourth Judicial Circuit on the Bar’s Board of Governors in 1995. He has prior and current service on the Board’s Executive Committee. He has also chaired its Legislation Committee, the Program Evaluation Committee, and the Disciplinary Review Committee. His candidacy for president-elect was unopposed.

Coxe, who concentrates his practice in the area of criminal defense in state and federal courts and certain areas of administrative law, has been Board Certified in Criminal Trial Law since 1988. He has been listed in Naifeh and Smith’s The Best Lawyers in America under the area of criminal trial law for many years.

A native of Wilkes Barre, Pa., Coxe graduated from The University of the South (Sewanee) and Washington & Lee University School of Law. He began his legal career at the Fourth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office, where he served as director of all felony divisions, and the special prosecution division.

Coxe is an active member of the Jacksonville Bar Association and served as its president in 1994-95. Among other professional activities, he is a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and is on the board of Jacksonville Legal Aid. In addition, Coxe has served on the Judicial Nominating Commission for the First District Court of Florida and was chairman of the JNC for the Fourth Judicial Circuit.

Coxe is the recipient of The Florida Bar President’s Award of Merit, Pro Bono Service Award, the Jacksonville ABOTA President’s Award and Jacksonville Legal Aid’s annual Justice For All Award.

In the community, Coxe is an elder at Riverside Presbyterian Church. He has also served as president of the Rotary Club of Jacksonville and president of Big Brother/Big Sisters of Jacksonville.

Coxe is married to Mary Cousar Coxe, a graduate of Wellesley College and Duke University Law School, who practices family law. They have three children: Katie who attends University of Pennsylvania; Matson, who attends Vanderbilt University; and Anne who attends Stanton College Preparatory High School in Jacksonville.
