The Judicial Nominating Commission for the First District Court of Appeal (JNC) will accept either version of the judicial application form when considering applicants to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Edwin T. Barfield, effective December 31, 2009. The application deadline is noon on Thursday, November 12, 2009. The 2009 JNC Rules Convention adopted a new judicial application form that will go into effect on November 10, 2009. To avoid inconvenience and uncertainty, the JNC will accept either the old or the new judicial application form in the process of filling this vacancy only.
As a reminder, interviews of selected applicants will be conducted on November 30 and December 1. The JNC is considering holding interviews in Jacksonville or Tallahassee. The JNC will meet on November 18, 2009, to select applicants to be interviewed. The location for the interviews will be decided following the selection of applicants to be interviewed.
An original and nine (9) copies of the completed application and all attachments must be delivered to George Levesque, 420 The Capitol, Tallahassee, FL 32301, no later than 12 p.m., Thursday, November 12, 2009. The JNC must provide Gov. Charlie Crist with a list of three (3) to six (6) nominees by December 9, 2009.
Applicants must have been members of The Florida Bar for the preceding ten (10) years, registered voters and residents of the territorial jurisdiction of the court at the time they assume office.
Applications can be obtained on the Florida Bar Web site, www.floridabar.org.
