As required by Article V, §11(c), Florida Constitution, the First Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission is seeking applications to fill the vacancy which will be created as a result of the resignation of Circuit Judge Nickolas P. Geeker in Escambia County. The Florida Constitution requires applicants be registered voters, members of The Florida Bar for the past five (5) years and reside in the First Judicial Circuit. Applicants must complete the "Application for Judicial Seat" available on the Florida Bar website (

Chief Judge Terrell has informed the Commission that the judge appointed to replace Judge Geeker will be assigned to Escambia County.

Applications will be screened by the Judicial Nominating Commission and, as required by Article V, §11(c), the Commission will send to Governor Rick Scott no fewer than three (3), nor more than six (6), persons to fill the vacancy. Pursuant to Article V, §11(b), the Governor will appoint one of the nominees for a "term ending on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in January of the year following the next primary and general election occurring at least one year after the date of appointment."

Interviews are tentatively scheduled for Monday, October 17, 2011, and Tuesday, October 18, 2011, and will take place in the Court Administration conference room on the 5th Floor of the Escambia County Judicial Center in Pensacola, Florida.

Per the Governor's instructions, applications should be printed on three ring hole punched paper and should not be bound. An original and fourteen copies of the completed application, five of which will be submitted to the Governor's office if nominated must be received by the chair of the commission, Sally Fox, 30 South Spring Street, Pensacola, FL 32502, no later than Noon on Monday, September 26, 2011.
