NOTICE OF REAPPOINTMENT HEARING FOR JUDGES OF COMPENSATION CLAIMS

Vacant positions for Judges of Compensation Claims will exist within the next 9 months in District Miami (MIA) and District Tampa (TPA).

The Statewide Nominating Commission for Judges of Compensation Claims (SNCJCC) announces that it will meet on Monday, August 20, 2012, at 9 a.m. at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort & Convention Center, 8701 World Center Drive Orlando, FL 32821, for the purpose of interviewing the following Judges of Compensation Claims (JCC's) for reappointment; Honorable Stephen Rosen (SPT), Honorable Alan Kuker (MIA), Honorable Mary D'Ambrosio (WPB), Honorable Thomas Sculco (ORL), and the Honorable Gerardo Castiello (MIA).

The Commission will also interview prospective applicants/candidates for nomination as Judge of Compensation Claims for the Miami (MIA) District, in anticipation of the retirement of the Honorable Henry Harnage (term to commence upon Gubernatorial appointment, not anticipated to be before March 2013) and in the Tampa (TPA) District, in anticipation of the retirement of the Honorable Joseph Murphy (term to commence upon Gubernatorial appointment, not anticipated to be before January 2013).

Applications for initial appointment or reappointment shall be submitted to each Commissioner no later than Friday July 27, 2012, by 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. A list of the names and mailing addresses of each SNCJCC member is provided on the Division of Administrative Hearings (DOAH) (www.fljcc.org) and Florida Bar websites (www.floridabar.org). Speakers in Opposition to Appointment or Reappointment:

If you wish to speak at the Commission meeting in opposition to the reappointment of any of the above Judges or the nomination of any applicant, written notice must be provided to the Commission Chairman and each Commission Member no later than Monday, August 6, 2012, 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Your letter should include your intention to address the Commission and a brief explanation regarding your request. If you wish to present any documents in support of your appearance before the Commission, copies must be provided to the Commission Chairman and all Commission Members by Monday, August 6, 2012, 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. A list of the names and mailing addresses of each SNCJCC member is provided on the Office of Judges of Compensation Claims (OJCC)(www.fljcc.org) and Florida Bar websites (www.floridabar.org). Presentations in opposition to a candidate for appointment or reappointment will be limited to four minutes.

The Commission will not ordinarily grant any requests for personal appearances to speak in favor of any of the above sitting Judges. However, the Committee will accept letters in support of the current Judges as long as they are delivered to each Commission member by Monday, August 6, 2012, 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. If opposition to a sitting judge is appropriately filed, then the Commission may allow personal appearance to speak in favor of the Judge, at the Commission's discretion.

The Commission will meet telephonically on Monday, August 13, 2012, at 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. This meeting will be to discuss procedural issues of the Commission specifically for the August 20, 2012, meeting. This telephonic commission meeting will be open to the public by dialing 888 670 3525, and entering code number 2492172867 when prompted.

The Commission also announces a vacancy for a Commission-appointed commissioner. This individual must reside in the geographic area of the Fifth District Court of Appeals, (Counties: Brevard, Citrus, Flagler, Hernando, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Putnam, Seminole, St. Johns, Sumter, and Volusia (see Fla. Stat. §440.45(2)(b)3. Fla. Stat. §440.45 also provides "§440.45" "No attorney who appears before any judge of compensation claims more than four times a year is eligible to serve on the statewide nominating commission."
