As a result of the retirement of Broward County Judge Joseph A. Murphy, there is a vacancy in the Seventeenth Judicial County Court, in and for Broward County, Florida.

Judicial applications for this one (1) County Court vacancy must be received by 5:00 p.m. on May 12, 2014 at the following location:

As an accommodation to all applicants, the application deadline for the vacancy created by Judge Edward Merrigan Jr.'s appointment to the Circuit Court will be extended to May 12, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. Only one application package is necessary to be considered for both vacancies.

Please be advised that any applicant(s) who have already applied for the vacancy created by Judge Edward H. Merrigan Jr.'s appointment to the Circuit Court will be deemed an active applicant for Judge Joseph A. Murphy’s seat as well, unless the applicant states otherwise. These applicants do not have to file a second application to be considered for Judge Murphy’s seat.

Applications delivered after May 12, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. All applicants must have been members of The Florida Bar for at least five (5) years, electors of the State of Florida, and be residents of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit prior to taking office.

Please organize these materials into an original and nine (9) copies set. It is suggested that you submit your application as soon as it is prepared and well before the deadline. After the deadline for submitting applications, the Commission will determine which applicants to interview. If you are to be interviewed, you will be contacted to confirm date, time and location. The interviews will be conducted on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. until completion at the Broward County Bar Association office. As you know, all proceedings of the Commission are open to the public except for deliberations. Accordingly, you should not expect your application and/or information to be kept confidential. If an applicant is nominated, all materials attached to the original application will be submitted to the Governor.
