The Thirteenth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission announces two vacancies on the Circuit Court of the Thirteenth Circuit in and for Hillsborough County, created by the resignations of The Honorable Brenda “Tracy” Sheehan and The Honorable William P. Levens.
The Commission is now accepting applications for both circuit court judge positions. Applicants must be residents of Hillsborough County, registered voters, and members of The Florida Bar for the past five years.
Applications can be downloaded from the Florida Bar’s web site at www.floridabar.org by following the “Publications” link on the left to “Bar Forms & Applications” to “Judicial Nominating Commission applications” (click this same link again if necessary) to “Application for Judicial seat”. Applicants will be asked to provide their names, addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail addresses to facilitate communication with the Commission.
Applicants must submit a fully completed original and one copy of the application, along with a photograph attached to the original and to the copy, to Andrew J. Mayts, GrayRobinson, P.A., 401 E. Jackson Street, Tampa, Florida 33602, no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 9, 2017. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Any material redacted by the applicant must be limited to exempt or confidential information that is exempt from public inspection pursuant to Chapter 119 and Florida's public records law. If an applicant submitted an application for the vacancies created by the resignations of The Honorable Herbert J. Baumann, Jr. and/or the Honorable Walter R. Heinrich, and there are no changes to the previously submitted application, the applicant may submit an original signature page only in lieu of the complete application.
Applicants and the public will be advised in subsequent press releases of dates of Commission meetings relating to filling these vacancies. The Commission will submit the names of nominees for these vacant judgeships to Gov. Rick Scott on or before Tuesday, April 11, 2017.
