Please be advised that the Supreme Court of Florida issued rule amendments to various Rules Regulating The Florida Bar effective March 1, 2008. Portions of Chapter 17 of the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar were amended which affect the Authorized House Counsel Rule. Among other things, the amendments require an AHC to disclose that they are not licensed to practice law in Florida in any communication outside of the business organization. Thus, it will be necessary to make this disclosure during oral communications outside the business organization. From a practical standpoint, once an individual or organization knows that the AHC is not licensed in Florida, it may not be necessary to make the disclosure in subsequent oral communications with that individual or organization. The rule change also provides an example of an appropriate disclosure to be used on any written communications outside the business organization.
