SNCJCC to meet September 28

Panel will interview sitting and potential workers’ comp judges

The Statewide Nominating Commission for Judges of Compensation Claims will meet September 28 at 9 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport to interview Judges of Compensation Claims W. James Condry, Charles M. Hill, Ellen H. Lorenzen, and Shelley H. Punancy for reappointment.

The commission will also interview prospective applicants/candidates for nomination as Judge of Compensation Claims for the Ft. Myers District to replace Judge Kathy Sturgis, for the Port St. Lucie District to replace Judge Robert McAliley, and for the West Palm Beach District to replace Judge Timothy Basquill.

Guidelines for the operation of the commission are available at www.fljcc.org/JCC/snc.asp.

Applications (one original for initial appointment or reappointment) shall be submitted to Lisa Mustain, the Division of Administrative Hearings (DOAH), The DeSoto Building, 1230 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee 32399-3060 or [email protected], no later than 5 p.m. September 3. This may be hard copy or electronic in PDF format. The DOAH will distribute the applications to the individual members of the SNCJCC. The application form is on the OJCC website, www.fljcc.org, under the “Nominating Commission” tab.

Any questions or comments relating to any of the above Judges of Compensation Claims should be addressed in writing to Wogan “Wogie” Badcock, SNCJCC chair, P.O. Box 497, Mulberry 33860.

If you wish to speak at the meeting in opposition to the appointment or reappointment of any applicant, written notice must be provided to the chair and DOAH no later than 5 p.m. September 14. The letter should include your intention to address the commission and a brief explanation regarding your request. If you wish to present any documents in support of your appearance, copies must be provided to the chair and DOAH by 5 p.m., September 14.

The commission will not ordinarily grant any requests for personal appearances to speak in favor of candidates. However, the committee will accept letters in support of candidates as long as they are delivered to DOAH by 5 p.m., September 14.

If opposition to reappointment of a sitting judge is appropriately filed, then the commission may allow personal appearance to speak in favor of that judge, at the commission’s discretion. In the event that permission is sought to speak in opposition, the OJCC will broadcast that fact to all registered e-JCC users (registered e-filers), and anyone wishing to request permission to speak in favor of any applicant against whom anyone will speak in opposition may request permission from the commission. Any such request to speak in support must be received by 2 p.m., September 21.
