Melton H. Little was honored by the Manatee County Bar Association with a lifetime achivement award for his service to the community.
Jonathan D. Fleece was also recognized for his service to the community.
Little received the William C. Grimes Award for lifetime achievement in community service, and Fleece received the Community Service Leader Award.
The purpose of the awards is to highlight members of the association who provide service to the community, through participation in organizations and activities beyond the scope of the bar and mandatory pro bono legal services.
With a heart for organizations that involve services to children and youth organizations, Melton coached youth sports and provided longtime service to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County that earned him the National Medallion, the highest award bestowed upon a volunteer in the Boys & Girls Club organization. In 2006, he and his law partner, Scott Kallins, established the Kallins & Little scholarship program. Since that time, they have awarded more than $100,000 to 69 graduating seniors from Manatee County high schools and the Sarasota Military Academy. He currently serves on the Manatee County Children’s Services Advisory Board, which makes recommendations to the board of county commissioners on the priorities and expenditures of the county’s funding source dedicated to children’s services.
