Red Mass slated for Sarasota

The Red Mass for the 12th Judicial Circuit will be celebrated by Most Rev. Frank Dewane, Bishop of the Diocese of Venice, on October 1, at 8:30 a.m., at St. Martha Catholic Church at 200 N. Orange Avenue in Sarasota.

The Red Mass has been a European tradition; the first recorded was held in the Cathedral of Paris in 1245. However, it was King Edward II in 1310 who started the English tradition of opening the term of court with the celebration of the Red Mass.

Lawyers, judges, law enforcement, and public service officials are invited to attend the Red Mass. R.S.V.P or email inquiries to Evelyn L. Moya at
