Applicants sought for First DCA JNC

The Florida Bar is accepting applications for two lawyer vacancies on the First DCA Judicial Nominating Commission.

Gov. Rick Scott rejected the Bar’s list of nominees for two seats on the First DCA JNC pursuant to F.S §43.29(1)(a). Accordingly, the Bar must submit two lists of three different nominees to the governor for appointment. The terms commence immediately upon appointment with ending dates of June 2014 and 2016.

Applicants must be engaged in the practice of law and a resident of the territorial jurisdiction served by the commission to which the member is applying. Applicants must comply with state financial disclosure laws. Commissioners are not eligible for state judicial office for vacancies filled by the JNC on which they sit for two years following completion of their four-year term.

Applications must be received by mail, e-mail at [email protected], or fax at (850) 561-9405 no later than 5:30 p.m. May 7, in the executive director’s office of the Bar. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of applications. Screening committee members of the Board of Governors will review the applications. The Executive Committee will then make recommendations to the Board of Governors.

Applications are available at the Bar’s website, www.floridabar.org, or applicants may call Bar headquarters at (850) 561-5757 to obtain applications. Completed applications must be received by the Executive Director, The Florida Bar, 651 E. Jefferson St., Tallahassee 32399-2300, by the deadline of May 7.
