Minority Mentoring Picnic
The Fourth Annual Minority Mentoring Picnic was held on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah. The event brought together attorneys and Judges throughout the state and paired them off as mentors to Florida law students. Some notable attendees included Justice Peggy Quince, Janet Reno, 11th Judicial Circuit Judge Farina, and Florida Bar President Frank Angones along with many other prominent members of the legal profession throughout Florida.
The picnic continues to be a success and plans are underway for the Fifth Annual Minority Mentoring Picnic on November 1, 2008.

Diversity in the Legal Profession
The Diversity in the Legal Profession Final Report and Recommendationsoutlines critical areas where there was a need for an increase in inclusion and diversity. These areas include a focus on diversity within legal education, The Florida Bar, legal employment and the judiciary. The report served as a recommended pathway to aid The Florida Bar and others affiliated with Florida’s legal profession in developing a plan to increase participation, retention and representation of diverse attorneys in Florida.

Survey of Lawyers with Disabilities
In May 2006, the Disability Independence Group and The Florida Bar administered an online survey of Florida lawyers with disabilities. The purpose was to gather demographics information, analyze barriers for lawyers with disabilities in their profession, collect information on accommodations and technical assistance; and ultimately, create a forum for the exploration of issues, strategies and recommendations to enhance the participation of attorneys with disabilities in Florida’s legal communities, in court and out of court.

The Member Outreach Committee is charged with the task of increasing the participation of all members in activities, sections, committees and voluntary bars, while developing ways to increase the number of diverse and inclusive participants in these areas.
The Equal Opportunities Law Section of The Florida Bar was established to develop a forum to fostering diversity in the legal profession in Florida.
