Analysis of ABA formal op. 93-379 "Billing for Professional Fees"
The ethics opinion denounces double billing and surcharges by lawyers.

ABA's Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibi lity focused on the ethics of charging it's clients. Hopefully this formal opinion will inspire clients and force attorneys to scutinize billing practices.

This article cites Lisa Lerman, law professor, Catholic University of America in her critical article "Lying to the Clients" and Jed Ringel, a law firm auditor, who is determined to root out offenders.

With gray areas still abundant, Seth Rosner, the chair of the ABA Standing Committee on Professionalism, preaches a common-sense approach to billing.
