In his book, "How to Draft Bills Clients Rush to Pay", J. Harris Morgan offers step-by-step advice for drafting detailed bills that showcase a lawyer's efforts, rather than the number of hours worked.
Morgan advises attorneys not to bill hourly wages, instead to list the efforts of the attorney for the client and to personalize the bill with a closing comment and thank-you.
Also to pay attention to visual appearance, using smaller billing paper so the statement does not appear as a few lines floating in a sea of white.
