Lawyers are being paid as hourly laborers, with rewards for slow legal service and quick efficient service not rewarded.
One of the first things a law student learns is that his work is never done. The attitudes and work habits learned in law school have fostered a legal system with too many lawyers doing too much legal work.
Lawmakers have recognized that we as a society have a problem of too many lawyers and too much litigation. However, none have focused on hourly billing as a source of the problem.
Quality, not quality, becomes the goal when hourly fees prevail.1 page
