Friday is deadline for Supreme Court applications
The Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission is seeking applicants to fill two vacancies on the Florida Supreme Court created by the resignations of Justice Raoul G. Cantero III (effective Sept. 6) and Justice Kenneth B. Bell (effective Oct. 1). Justice Cantero’s seat will be an at-large vacancy. Justice Bell’s seat must be filled by a resident from within the jurisdiction of the First District Court of Appeal. Application forms must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, July 25.

Attorneys assist Floridians facing foreclosure
The Florida Bar in conjunction with other legal groups has launched a toll-free hot line (866-607-2187) staffed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Callers who fear they won't be able to make their mortgage payments or who have already missed payments, but are not yet in foreclosure, are urged to call. The goal is to pair callers with attorneys offering their services pro bono and then negotiate with lenders.

Court Strategic Planning Survey
The Florida Supreme Court is seeking input from a variety of individuals, including attorneys and litigants, to update the long-range strategic plan for Florida’s State Courts System. In order to facilitate participation from a larger number of individuals, the Task Force on Judicial Branch Planning has decided to extend the survey deadline through August 31.
