Videos submitted by students from Ft. Lauderdale High School, Pompano Beach High School, and SouthTech Academy in Boynton Beach were chosen by the Law Related Education Committee of The Florida Bar as the top entries in the 2015 YouTube Contest, featuring the Legal Guide for New Adults.

A total of 11 video entries were received this year.

Ft. Lauderdale High School student Hannah Theisen and Pompano Beach High School student Julie Godfrey and their video “Keep the Music Down” won first place and a $500 prize. South Tech Academy took two awards, second place and a $250 prize for the video “Fake ID,” submitted by Jared Sonder, Conner Luther, Daniel Golden, Riquet Cadet, Jemmson Oceant, and third place for “Lost Adult,” by Julian Pollifrone, Nichael Gonzalez, and Julian Agustus.

Plaques and certificates will be given to the three winning teams this month and all 11 entries are posted on The Florida Bar’s YouTube page, www.YouTube.com/flabarlrec.

The purpose of the annual contest is to promote interest in the law and its traditions through research, participation, and ingenuity in creating a theme-based video for competition with other students throughout the state. Students may produce their video on any of the topics covered in the Legal Guide for New Adults.

The Legal Guide for New Adults is part of an overall effort by The Florida Bar’s Law Related Education Committee to instruct young adults regarding employment, consumer protection laws, criminal charges, jury duty, voting, and many more topics. The pocket-sized booklet is provided free of charge to schools to distribute to seniors with funding from The Florida Bar and with assistance from the Florida Department of Education.

During the current school year, the Bar distributed more than 192,000 guides to nearly 1,000 public high schools in Florida. Printed copies of the Legal Guide for New Adults are also available to private high schools and the general public and may be downloaded from www.floridabar.org at no charge.
