Justice Teaching at Royal Palm School in Lantana
JUDGE JOHN PHILLIPS and attorney Sheri Hazeltine presented to 20 students at Royal Palm School in Lantana as part of the Justice Teaching program. Royal Palm serves students in Palm Beach County who have significant to severe physical, emotional, cognitive, or communication deficits. While many of the students have trouble communicating, they had no problem understanding the lesson. The judge used the lesson, “So You Think You Are as Smart as a State Court Judge?” Questions pertained to the Florida and U.S. constitutions, rights, Supreme Court justices, branches of government, qualifications of judges, amendments, judicial behavior, jury duty, and the courts. Teacher Regina Brodsky modified the PowerPoint presentation to make it user-friendly for the students to answer the game’s questions.
