Bar receives clean audit

The Florida Bar has received a clean audit for its 2015-16 fiscal operations.

Audit Committee Chair Duffy Myrtetus reported to the board at its recent Clearwater meeting that the Bar’s auditing firm found “no weaknesses and no insufficiencies” in the Bar’s 2015-16 financial records.

On the committee’s recommendation, the board unanimously approved the audit, which was published in an official notice in the January 1 News.

It was the first fiscal review done by the Bar’s new auditing firm, Law Redd Crona and Monroe, Myrtetus noted, hired to bring fresh eyes to the annual audit.

On other matters, Myrtetus said the Bar switched to a new accounting and payroll system in July and is adjusting to those, which updated much older systems. The next step for the committee is to do a technology audit, including assessing vulnerabilities of the Bar’s electronic systems.

Myrtetus also said the Bar is ready to comply with changes ordered by President Obama to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Those changes have been stayed by a federal court, but the Bar is prepared if that stay is lifted.
