Senior Lawyers panel offers free Winter Meeting program

Regular News

The Senior Lawyers Committee is offering a free seminar “Taking the High Road: Professionalism Through the Eyes of the Judiciary: A Roadmap for Improved Interactions Between Bench and Bar,” in conjunction with The Florida Bar’s Winter Meeting January 21 at the Hilton Lake Buena Vista in Kissimmee/Orlando.

The 9 a.m. to noon seminar includes a panel of seven judges and follows a short business meeting of the Senior Lawyers Committee in Grand Ballroom 6.

Participants are retired Florida Supreme Court Justice Major Harding; retired First District Court of Appeal Judge Peter Webster; Circuit Judges Scott Bernstein (Miami, family law), Lamar Battles (Tampa, criminal), and Charles E. Roberts (Brevard County, civil); County Judge Jeanette Bigney (Orlando, civil), and Judge of Compensation Claims John Lazzara.

Each judge will address one or two topics identified by attorneys as important to their practices, with a focus on professionalism. Time will be allocated for a question-and- answer session.

The Senior Lawyers Committee is not a substantive law committee; it was created to provide senior lawyers with a forum and network to address the lifestyle and professional changes of great importance not only to senior lawyers but also to law firms and the legal profession. However, age is not a factor for membership.

To better meet some of the issues raised by its members, several subcommittees have been developed: CLE, Linda McCullough; Communications, Heather Patchen; Transitions, Martin (Guy) Haines, III; Mentoring, George Waas; Technology, David McDonald; Membership Category, Bill Curphey. The Pro Bono Subcommittee is in need of a chair.
