25Green ball IconSouth Palm Beach County Bar Association - Law Day celebration and in coordination with “Project Nuremberg,” a Holocaust awareness project founded by Temple Beth El of Boca Raton and Lynn University, is pleased to announce an essay contest open to all middle and high school students in South Palm Beach County. The Project Nuremberg luncheon will be held on April 25 from noon-2 p.m. at Temple Beth El, 333 SW 4th Avenue, Boca Raton.

The event will be held on April 26, from 10 a.m-2 p.m. at the Edison Mall, 4125 Cleveland Ave., Ft. Myers. Individual consultations are given on a wide variety of topics. The public is encouraged to bring all relevant documents with them to "Law in the Mall." At the event, there are also several hourly seminars for general education on topics such as Bankruptcy & Foreclosure, Representing Yourself in Small Claims Court, Family Law, and Simple Wills & Powers of Attorney. The class will perform a mock trial, based on a script that is provided in advance. Following the presentation, attorneys will be asked to give feedback regarding the mock trial and take part in a brief question-and-answer session. This year’s event will feature a joint reception presented by Tallahassee Bar Association, Legal Aid Foundation of the Tallahassee Bar Association and Legal Services of North Florida, Inc. with guest speaker Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi and several special awards including: The Parks & Crump, Thurgood Marshall Award for Judicial Excellence; The Joy Aukema Taps Children’s Advocate of the Year Award; and The Richard W. 7Green ball IconClearwater Bar Association's The Three Bears vs. Gold E. Locks - Gold E. Locks will once again attempt to prove her innocence in this mock trial for grade school students on May 7th. All three bears (in full costume) and Gold E. Locks and their attorneys will attempt to see that justice is properly served at the Old Clearwater Courthouse in downtown Clearwater. Local grade school children will serve as the jury. Shelly Beach is organizing this event, which will be held in Courtroom One of the Old Historic Courthouse at 9 am & 10:30 am. The guest speaker is Joyce Hamilton Henry, director of the Mid-Florida Regional Office of the ACLU. At the luncheon, the HCBA will be recognizing local law enforcement officers of the year and will be giving out the Liberty Bell Award to an outstanding citizen (non-attorney) whose community service has strengthened the effectiveness of the American legal system. The HCBA has also been working with the public school system to promote democracy and the rule of law.
