Consumer Protection Law Committee
Mission
The Consumer Protection Law Committee educates consumers and bar members about consumer protection laws and current issues through public outreach events, public service messages, CLE programs, and consumer publications. The committee, through its judicial subcommittee, also has prepared The Consumer Law Bench Book to serve as a resource regarding Florida consumer law issues.

Consumer Protection Lawyer of the Year Award
Consumer attorneys are the lawyers Floridians often turn to when they are in crisis, facing foreclosures or evictions, trying to restore their credit, or dealing with deceptive and unfair business practices. The Florida Bar’s Consumer Protection Law Committee seeks to honor a legal service, public interest, academic, private, or other deserving attorney whose special contributions to the practice of consumer law have strengthened and affirmed the rights of consumers in Florida by not only helping consumers but also educating peers about the practice of consumer law.
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2026 Consumer Protection Lawyer of the Year Award. You may submit a nomination on behalf of yourself or any other Florida lawyer you believe should be considered for the award. Nominations must be received by 5 p.m. on May 1, 2026. If you have any questions, please email Melanie Woodall.
Information for Consumers
Need advice on matters regarding your landlord or writing a will or hiring an attorney? The Florida Bar offers consumer pamphlets on those topics and many others as a service to the public. While not a substitute for hiring an attorney, these pamphlets provide basic legal information about the topics they cover. The Florida Bar hopes they prove helpful to you.
The Consumer Protection Law Committee, through its Judicial Subcommittee, has prepared The Consumer Law Bench Book to serve as a resource regarding Florida consumer law issues. The Bench Book was first published in 2018 and has now been updated to reflect the most recent changes in Florida law. The Committee is therefore making the Summer 2025 update available on its web page to serve as a resource for the Courts, practitioners, and the general public regarding the most commonly encountered consumer law issues here in Florida.
Please note: This document is good through the end of June 2025 and does not reflect the newest legislative changes that took place on July 1, 2025.
