Criminal defense lawyers give back in Jacksonville

The Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Northeast Chapter members donated more than 50 toys to the Salvation Army of Northeast Florida and more than 100 books to inmates in the Florida Department of Corrections.

Warming hearts, heads and hands in Tallahassee

The Florida Justice Association staff had the pleasure of assisting the Innovative Community Engagement Foundation in putting together holiday gift bags for Share the Warmth. The annual event provides winter clothing and toys to the children of the Tallahassee Housing Authority. Every child received winter gear, including jackets, scarves, gloves, and hats.

Clearwater Bar gifts for kids

The Clearwater Bar Association used its holiday party to gather gifts for local kids. The party was well-attended and many gifts were collected.

Angel tree grows in Central Florida

The Central Florida Association for Women Lawyers Angel Tree Project was a huge success! Through the generous donations of members, gifts for 66 children were purchased! Each child received two items from their wish list along with two shirts, a jacket, a pair of pants and shoes.

Jacksonville Bar delivers gifts to seniors

The Jacksonville Bar Association’s Senior Holiday Project set a record this year when gifts were provided to 420 residents. Working with the nonprofit Aging True, the association purchased and wrapped cookies and snacks, blankets, pajamas and household necessities. Gifts were delivered by attorneys, judges and judicial assistants as well as sworn officers and community service officers…

Warm and fuzzy holiday party in Sarasota

Keeping chilly toes warm this holiday season was the focus of Sarasota FAWL’s Holiday Party on Dec. 6. Guests were asked to bring a pair of cozy socks to benefit cancer and cardiac patients at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Collier County Bar festive fun

Collier County Bar Association hosted an evening of fun on Dec. 14 with festivities for the young and young at heart. Guests were entertained by a magician and enjoyed face painting, crafts and a visit with Santa.

South Sarasota County Bar serves courthouse staff

The South County Division of the Sarasota County Bar Association hosted its 2017 Holiday Party at the Courthouse on Dec. 8. Law firms sponsored the delicious food for courthouse staff and collected donations of stuffed animals for the North Port Police Department to give to area children.

Holiday cheer delivered in Little Havana

Giving to those in need made a difference in the lives of the children at Abriendo Puertas (East Little Havana, Miami) and Centro Mater Foundation, thanks to the donations from the Cuban American Bar Association.

Perkins Bar holiday mixer

The Paul C. Perkins Bar Association rang in the holidays this year with a mixer on Dec. 13. The event was well attended and enjoyed by everyone there.

Dive Bar rocks for Irma relief

The Dive Bar’s “Conchy Tonk” Holiday Party on Dec. 15 was a night of fun for a great cause. Net proceeds from the event went to The United Way of the Florida Keys Hurricane Irma Relief Fund.

Former bar officers unite in Hillsborough County

Past presidents, members of the current Board, the Young Lawyers Divison board and past Foundation presidents of the Hillsborough County Bar Association enjoyed their annual luncheon, where they caught up with old friends and colleagues and celebrated the season.

Habitat House project in St. Pete

Members of the St. Pete Bar Young Lawyers Section spent Dec. 2 giving back to the community by volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.

Joint bars host Soiree!

Two bars joined forces to celebrate the holidays. Lots of fun was shared between members of the F. Malcolm Cunningham Sr. Association and Palm Beach County Hispanic Bar Association at the annual Holiday Soiree!!

Students mentored by Edgecomb Bar members

The George Edgecomb Bar Association Mentoring Committee hosted students from Ferrell Middle School on a Courthouse tour in late November. The students had a wonderful time and learned a lot from the Hon. Ronald Ficarrotta, who took time to speak with the students.

Muslim bar launches new pro bono initiative

The Florida Muslim Bar Association hosted its annual end of the year celebration dinner with special keynote speaker Alan Dimond, shareholder at Greenberg Traurig. A pro bono initiative was launched at the event targeting one of the more vulnerable populations in Florida, women of domestic violence.

Palm Beach County Courthouse yoga

The Palm Beach County Bar Association’s Judicial Relations Committee — co-chaired by Chief Judge Krista Marx and Rina Clemens — recently hosted its first “Yoga at the Courthouse” class. Members took a relaxing break with yoga and a healthy lunch.

Two Orlando VBs assist in relief efforts

The Orlando Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and the Hispanic Bar Association of Central Florida hosted a luncheon in December. U.S. Rep. Darren Soto shared remarks on the congressional efforts to assist Puerto Rico. All proceeds of the luncheon were donated toward relief efforts on the island.     

PACE gift cards in Palm Beach County

The Palm Beach County Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers hosted a Holiday Party Luncheon for PACE girls. Through member donations, FAWL was able to give each girl a Target gift card.  

Jacksonville VB leaders meet with Florida Bar leaders

Jacksonville area voluntary bar leaders joined The Florida Bar Board of Governors for breakfast at Amelia Island. Florida Bar President Michael Higer and President-Elect Michelle Suskauer encouraged members to apply for JNC appointments, the Leadership Academy, and standing committees. Manatee lawyers fill empty bowls

Members of Manatee FAWL participated in Empty Bowls, an event to benefit the Food Bank of Manatee County. Area restaurants, local businesses and talented artists all contributed to fight hunger at this luncheon.

Broward women lawyers honor the judiciary

The Broward County Women Lawyers Association holiday party celebrated the local judiciary. Members also provided an unwrapped toy to share with area children.

Latino lawyers holiday mixer

The Dominican, Puerto Rican and Colombian American Bar associations gathered on Dec. 18 for a joint mixer in Miami Beach.

The gift of recognition in Miami

The largest judicial awards celebration of its kind in Florida was hosted by Dade County Bar Association on Dec. 5 in Miami. The Over the Rainbow Judicial Awards Celebration recognized nine of the best in judicial excellence and united the legal community during the holiday season.

Diverse VBAs Host Western Line-Dance Showdown

The Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association, the Asian Pacific American Bar Association and the Florida Association of LGBT Lawyers & Allies hosted a Western line-dance contest. The famous gay venue, Scandals Saloon, was a proud sponsor of the unity event – which was a response to recent assaults on community and mutual appreciation.

Spirits bright in Coral Gables

Unwrapped toys flanked the tree when Coral Gables Bar members showed up on Dec. 13 with gifts for area underprivileged children. Members also enjoyed some social time together as they celebrated the holidays.

Weston Bar celebrates the season

Members of the Weston Bar Association gathered for a holiday celebration on Dec. 6. A festive time was enjoyed at Moon Thai with a great crowd of Weston lawyers and their guests.

Shopping spree in Miami Gardens

Caribbean Bar Association President Niyala Harrison, Board Member Hilary Creary and and other CBA members supported 100 Black Men of South Florida’s Annual Holiday Shopping Spree! More than 280 children benefited from this event!

Fundraiser for the Women’s Center in Brevard

  The Brevard County Association for Women Lawyers kicked off the New Year’s fitness resolutions early! BCAWL hosted a Pure Barre for charity class. Members donated lots of items for the Women’s Center.

Tallahassee Bar honors veteran public defender

The Tallahassee Bar Association recently presented its annual Lifetime Professionalism Award to Nancy Daniels, who served for 26 years as the public defender for Leon and five surrounding counties before her retirement in 2016.
