Palm Beach County Justice Association lends helping hands

Members of the Young Lawyer Section, from the Palm Beach County Justice Association, had a great time giving back on the Monday before Thanksgiving! The group raised more than $2,200 for two local causes, Kids In Distress and The Guatemalan Maya Center. Kids in Distress applied the funds to Thanksgiving meals for private families. Bench and Bar in Circuit Six

The Clearwater Bar Association and St. Petersburg Bar Association hosted their Wild, Wild West Bench & Bar-B-Que CLE Conference on Nov. 17. Palm Beach County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section  held its No Shave November. This event supports a worthy cause in bringing awareness to cancer. All proceeds benefited the Cancer Alliance of Help & Hope, Inc. and the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, Inc.

Attorneys give back in Orlando

The Central Florida Association for Women Lawyers joint happy hour with the Federal Bar Association – Orlando Chapter raised money to feed the needy for Thanksgiving. More than $1,500 was raised for the Orlando Union Rescue Mission, to ensure that homeless and underprivileged adults and children in the Orlando community enjoyed a hot Thanksgiving meal.

Baskets for Thanksgiving in Tallahassee

During Nov. 13 – 20 Tallahassee Barristers Association held its annual Thanksgiving Basket Drive, collecting food and financial donations and creating Thanksgiving baskets for underprivileged families in the community. Members filled baskets with food for the holidays and delivered them to both the Guardian ad Litem Program and the Tallahassee Housing Authority.

Tailgate for Salvation Army

Florida and Georgia fans boasted their school colors on Oct. 28 at a friendly tailgate party. In the best of team spirit, lawyers came together for a food drive to benefit the Salvation Army. Everyone was a winner! 

Gift cards put food on the table

The South Palm Beach County Bar Association YLS board dropped off banker boxes and bags of food, along with $650 in Publix gifts cards to Pine View Elementary School. Members donated the funds to treat area families to a special Thanksgiving.

Legal fact-checking site online

Fact, fiction or opinion?  It is hard to decipher these days with all that is happening in the world.  The American Bar Association has created a fact-checking site that concentrates on legal matters.  The ABA will use case and statutory law and other legal precedents to determine fact from fiction.  Check it out here.

Scholarships offered for ABA Bar Institute

The scholarship application period is now open for the 2018 ABA Bar Leadership Institute, scheduled for March 14-16 in Chicago. Four scholarships are available to help presidents-elect and other upcoming leaders of small bar associations attend.  One scholarship is earmarked for an executive director who is a NABE member.  A scholarship consists of a registration…
