The Second District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission is now accepting applications to fill a vacancy due to the retirement of Judge Chris W. Altenbernd.

Applicants must be residents of the territorial jurisdiction of the court at the time he or she would assume office, registered voters, and members of The Florida Bar for the preceding 10 years.

Applications may be downloaded from The Florida Bar’s website at www.floridabar.org.

The completed application must be typed and bound. The inclusion of a photograph is encouraged. In addition to the original application, applicants must submit to the commission nine paper copies of the original application (including all attachments); one electronic copy of the original application (including all attachments) in PDF; and one electronic redacted copy of the application (including all attachments), which excludes all exempt information under Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes or other applicable public records law. All printed copies should be two-sided and both electronic copies should be on either a single flash drive or a single CD.

The materials to be submitted to the commission must be delivered to Laird A. Lile, JNC Chair, 3033 Riviera Drive, Suite 104, Naples 34103 no later than 5 p.m., February 25.

After the deadline for submitting applications, the commission will determine which applicants to interview. Interviews are expected to be held on March 31. Applicants will be contacted to confirm the date, time, and location.

All proceedings of the commission are open to the public except for deliberations. Applicants should not expect their applications to be kept confidential.

If an applicant is nominated, all materials attached to the original application will be submitted to the governor.
