St. Thomas plans ethics seminar
On April 15, St. Thomas University School of Law will be the site of a symposium titled “When Politics and Law Collide: The Interplay of Ethical Standards in the Public Arena.”
The keynote speaker, who will address attendees at a luncheon, will be former Florida Attorney General Bob Butterworth.
Some of the many other participants will include Broward County Mayor Sue Gunzburger; President of the University of Miami Good Government Initiative and former Miami-Dade Commissioner Katy Sorenson; former Miami Mayor Maurice Ferre; retired Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Gerald Kogan; former Miami-Dade County Manager and School Superintendent Merrett Steirheim; former Florida Senate minority leader Steve Geller; former State Representative Miguel De Grandy; Florida Atlantic University Ethics Academy Director and former State Representative Norm Ostrau; Miami-Dade Ethics Commission Director Robert Meyers; attorney Ben Kuehne; Judge Ken Gottlieb; and Judge Eric Hendon.
Panel discussions will include: “South Florida’s Climate of Corruption: Better Weather Ahead?”; “What Hat Do I Have on Today?: Lawyers, Lobbyists, and Elected Officials”; “Judges and Other Politicians: Learning From Each Other”; and “The Appearance of Impropriety: Undermining the Confidence of the Public.”
Cosponsoring the event with the law school is the University’s Center for Ethics, the Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics and Public Trust, and the Daily Business Review.
