Bar center naming announcement
THE FLORIDA BAR BOARD OF GOVERNORS surprised Bar Executive Director John F. Harkness, Jr., at the Annual Convention in Boca Raton by naming The Florida Bar’s Tallahassee headquarters complex after him. Harkness has been the Bar’s executive director for 35 years and is the longest serving state bar executive director in the country. Outgoing President Greg Coleman called Harkness the “rock star” of the country’s bar executive directors. “There is no single person who has meant more to the legal profession and Florida lawyers than Jack Harkness,” Coleman said. “He has been the guiding force behind every Florida Bar president and has made our Bar the most recognized and influential in the country. This recognition by our Board of Governors was enthusiastic and unanimous.” Pictured from the left are President Ramón Abadin, former President Mayanne Downs, Harkness, Coleman, former President Alan Bookman, and former President Miles McGrane.
