Justice Teaching art
JUSTICE TEACHING VOLUNTEER Pauline Drake, a Duval County judge, is proud of the students at her assigned school, Brentwood Elementary School of the Arts.  When Judge Drake suggested the creation of an art exhibit that incorporated the justice system, Principal Carolyn Laws “jumped at the chance.” Visual arts educator Debra Whitehead assisted the students to transform concepts of justice into art. Some students focused on laws that improve fairness and well-being, while others sought to depict laws that protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of all Americans. The students’ work is on display at the Duval County Courthouse. Drake said she was impressed by the amount of thought dedicated to the project by the students.
