AG Pam Bondi and Eugene PettisATTORNEY GENERAL PAM BONDI received a President’s Award of Merit from Bar President Eugene Pettis at the Board of Governor’s January meeting. Bondi had been scheduled to receive the award at last June’s Annual Convention from immediate past President Gwynne Young, but was unable to attend that meeting. The award recognized Bondi’s continued support for funding of legal aid agencies and getting funding for legal aid agencies to help families facing foreclosure as part of national settlements with banks over their foreclosure practices. Bondi told the board that Florida and its residents had received a total of $9.22 billion for foreclosure assistance. She also detailed how the most recent $334 million in settlement monies was spent. That amount included $15 million for legal aid, $5.26 million for improvements to court technology, $16 million for senior judges to handle foreclosure cases, $9.7 million for clerks of courts for foreclosure work, $10 million for domestic violence centers, $20 million for Habitat for Humanity, and more than $150 million for various housing programs for low-income, homeless, elderly, disabled, and developmentally disabled Floridians.
