Overview

Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how mediation functions as a structural component of federal civil practice in Florida. The program walks through the authority for mediation under federal rules, how each district implements ADR differently, and what “mediation” truly means in federal court. Participants will learn the mechanics and expectations in the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts, compare magistrate judge settlement conferences with private mediation, and examine how district judges actively shape the process through orders, oversight, and sanctions. The session closes with practical, district specific guidance for lawyers and mediators so they can navigate federal mediation requirements with confidence and strategy.
