Certified lawyers in real estate deal with matters relating to real property transactions including, but not limited to real estate conveyances, title searches, property transfers, leases, condominiums and cooperatives, interval ownership, mortgage, zoning and land use planning, real estate development and financing, real estate litigation, and determination of property rights.

Board Certification Applications for Lawyers

All applicants for board certification or recertification should carefully read the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar (Rules) and be sure you have met each of the requirements prior to filing your application. Unless the Rules provide for a waiver of a specific requirement, each of the requirements must be met by the dates indicated in the rule. There is a link to the Rules located below on this page.

To download an application, click on the appropriate application. You will be asked if you would like to ‘Open’ or ‘Save’ the file (MSWord). It is advisable to save the file to your computer for future reference. Type in your responses on the application and print a copy. Attach any required documents, enclose the applicable application fee, and mail your application to: The Florida Bar, Legal Specialization and Education Dept., 651 E. Jefferson St., Tallahassee, FL 32399-2300.

View your Board Certification CLE credit hours online. Log in to your My Florida Bar account, and select “Show More” in the My Board Certifications section. Check “Show All” and select Real Estate from the drop down menu. Select the “Credit History” tab. It is recommended that you see how many credits are required for certification and the date the credits must be completed to qualify.

Currently Certified

If you were originally certified in 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008, or 2013, the Application for Recertification must be postmarked by July 31, 2018. All requirements for recertification must be completed by July 31, 2018 unless you file a recertification extension request.

Recertification File Extension

To request a one-time 3-month extension, the Recertification Extension Application must be postmarked by July 31, 2018.

Get Certified – Seeking Certification

If you wish to apply for certification, the Initial Application for Certification filing period opens Sept. 1, 2018, and applications must be postmarked by Oct. 31, 2018. This filing period is to become eligible to sit for the May 2019 Real Estate Certification Examination.

You may submit anĀ Abbreviated Application for Certification only if you meet one of the following conditions. In order to become eligible to sit for the May 2019 Real Estate Certification Examination, the abbreviated application must be postmarked by Oct. 31, 2018.

1. You submitted an Initial Application for Certification by Oct. 31, 2017, which was approved, but you were unable to sit for the 2018 Real Estate exam.

2. You submitted an Initial Application for Certification by Oct. 31, 2017, which was approved, you took the 2018 Real Estate exam, but you were unsuccessful in obtaining a passing score. (Please note if you were unsuccessful on the 2017 and 2018 exam, you are not eligible to apply for the 2019 Real Estate exam, but you may reapply for the 2020 exam by submitting the Initial Application for Certification Aug. 31, 2019.)
