Michael G. Tanner received The Florida Bar’s G. Kirk Haas Humanitarian Award at the Bar’s annual convention, held last week in Boca Raton.

The G. Kirk Haas award was established in 1998 by then-Bar President Edward R. Blumberg, to recognize a Florida Bar member for meritorious service to the legal profession. Kirk Haas practiced law in Miami and was recognized for his humanity, legal ethics, skill and professionalism.

The award recipient is selected by the president of The Florida Bar. The recipient then selects a Florida law school, and a scholarship is awarded to a second-year student who demonstrates an exceptionally high degree of integrity, ethics, professionalism and concern for others.

Outgoing Florida Bar President Sanchez-Medina presented the G. Kirk Haas Award to former Bar President Michael G. Tanner for meritorious service to the legal profession.

Sanchez-Medina said Tanner is a dedicated public servant constantly modeling stellar ethics and impeccable professionalism — whether debating on the Board of Governors, in the courtroom, or serving as a missionary.

Sanchez-Medina said professionalism was a primary focus during his term as president — when he appointed a special professionalism committee whose recommendations resulted in lasting positive changes to the Bar and the legal profession.”
